Goldfish swim school
What They Do: Goldfish Swim School is a fun and safe environment for toddlers/infants to learn how to swim!
Challenge: Originally, our challenge was to find a creative way to get the word out to high school and college students about job opportunities. After meeting with Pam, it changed to finding a creative/fun way to bring in more people (kids). I was attracted to this company because I knew it was a fun environment and I had a friend who works there.
Group Members: My group members were Erikka Ededuwa and Maggie Harycki.
Project Timeline: Our group started with our initial meeting where we met Pam Chemelewski. Pam is the manager at Goldfish Swim School, in Fishers. During this meeting we introduced ourselves, told Pam about Innovations, and discussed the overall plan. During our second meeting we shared ideas we had to get the word out about job opportunities. These ideas included a dunk tank during halftime of a school basketball game or football tailgate, HSETV having an episode where they show Goldfish Swim School, and getting her into one of the job fairs at HSE. During our next meeting we tried discussing how the dunk tank idea would work (as this was her favorite), but it seemed like it wouldn't be realistic because it would take too long to set up. Then, she seemed to switch the challenge to finding a way to get more people to come to Goldfish Swim School. Her reason for this was because she has enough workers and it is the Goldfish Swim School in Carmel that needs help with job opportunities. The idea of a "Swim Night" came up during the discussion and that is what we talked about at our third meeting. As Erikka's mom is the principle of Durbin Elementary, she said we could get kids to come through the school. Pam loved this idea and wanted us to come back after we got more details for the plan. For our fourth and final meeting we came with the proposal to have Durbin Elementary kids buy tickets at their school to be able to come to a "Swim Night". At this "Swim Night" there will open swim, food, and games. It lasts about an hour and a half and is a family event. This is planned to happen in January and will be a great test to see if it can help Goldfish bring in more costumers!
Contribution: I contributed by collaborating with my team members everyday as we brainstormed ideas and prepared for meetings. I was the one who came up with dunk tank idea which led to Pam coming up with her own idea during halftime at basketball games. Also, I went to every meeting with my group members and had a great experience throughout the entire project.
Takeaways: The positive takeaways from this project is that I can now say I have worked alongside a business and Pam offered us all jobs if we ever wanted to come work at Goldfish Swim School. We faced the challenge of having to switch proposals in the middle of the project because Pam came up with a new "challenge". We overcame this by taking on the new challenge head-on and seeing it as a new opportunity. If we were doing this project again I wouldn't want to change a single thing. I was extremely happy with the members in my group as we all got along well and never faced huge disagreements. Also, I loved the company that we got to work with as Pam was extremely kind and Goldfish is a happy environment. Overall, this project was a great experience.
